What happens if you're a DJ and your equipment is different to the previous DJ?

For example, if I use a completely different set-up lets say completely digital - NO CD's and NO VINYLS - strictly MP3 with a midi controller connected to Laptop - and the DJ before me was using CD decks and a mixer - How do you change over from his set over to yours without a stop in the music? I would get a 1/8 inch to rca splitter and plug that into the channel on the mixer he's not using on his last song, the eighth inch goes into your headphone jack and get him to just push the fader and you should be good.

the equipment will be the same, it will be the setting that would change and there would just be a place for u to connect the laptop..
