How do time coded cd's and vinyls work?

how do time coded cds work on dj players? do they have wires conecting to the computer from the cd? can you make a time coded cd at home? my setup is an mk2 pioneer setup. with a laptop. How do time coded cd's and vinyls work?
well first one need to sound cards for 2 inputs and 2 outputs

then you need a software supporting coded Vinyls or cd's

then you get an ASIO Driver ( theres a link for a free one below)

why need ASIO?

ASIO one could say is a driver that bypasses windows to increase the buffer speed on the sound card that one needs for something that is sending big quantities of information

My sister in law has got to be the biggest brat i have ever met!?

She is 20 and lives at home but even though my fiance had to pay for his car and clothes after a certain age - she gets everything! Her car, laptop, uni EVERYTHING is a demand away - she even gets her mother to do her homework while she is out partying till 6 in the morning! her mum is a nurse and has weird sleeping hours but my sister in law doesnt care a bit - will beep her horn when she gets home if the shed door is closed or get her mum up to cook for her.

I am marrying her brother this year and she has gone out of her away to make me look bad in public spreading the most horrible rumors and threatening to ruin my wedding.

I cant not invite her and she screams at everyone yet the family of auntys and uncles think she is adorable.

I cant enter a room if she was in it and even her own father isnt allowed to speak to her!

Im so close to throwing my hands around her neck! lol

Whats the easiest way to backup my Macbook without having to re-copy my entire hard drive every time?

I have a Mybook external HD with 320GB that im currently using to backup my Macbook. I mainly got it because I'm a DJ and I wanted to keep a backup copy of all my music at home but Im trying to figure out how I can do it so that whenever I get new music, i can back it up on my hard drive later without having to re-copy my entire library. Plus i want to keep other music on my External that i don't normally use or want on my laptop but still have it so that i can access it when I DO want it. I hope i make sense.

Of course I'd like to keep my photo's and documents + movies backed up the same...

What is the best way to do all this? I know theres a million ways out there to do this but Im lazy and don't have time to research all of them... but luckliy theres yahoo answers!Whats the easiest way to backup my Macbook without having to re-copy my entire hard drive every time?

  • Please help. i know its long, but please your help would be wonderful.!?

i love my boyfriend. on 11-13 we would be going out for 11 months. but i haven't seen him since Oct. 15, haven't spoken to him on the phone since Nov. 1. and haven't heard from him since Nov. 4.!! its now the 10th.!! I have a feeling its not his fault though.. his mom is kind of sneaky and untrustworthy. She wanted to move to Germany, I'm still in the US. So she decided to move there. She took my man with her. And since we are both still in high school, we had no choice. But before she left she was telling him how she will make it so we can talk to each other and still be together, he told me not to trust her because she always runs her mouth and doesn't follow through. But I thought she could change, and told him maybe going wouldn't be such a bad thing..

    Now we are both suffering because she is not making it possible for him to get in contact with me. At first he was, he got there on Nov. 1. He messaged me on myspace from a hotel computer. Now I believe the reason he hasn't been on was because they found a house. Well I saw that she was getting on myspace [[his mother]]. And i sent her a message asking if he was okay and a message that asked for her to please let him get in contact with me. She read the one asking to please let him get in contact with me and didn't even bother to read the second one. Then I sent her another one like 2 days later it said ';

Im sorry to keep bugging you, I know you most likely dont want to hear from me, and dont want anything to do with me. but can you just let Dj know im going to PA, and that i miss him. You were saying before how you were happy that he was happy, why cant he talk to me.? you probably aren't going to read this or if you do not even reply. but can you please at least let him know i love him and that i miss him.

    I hope you all are safe and having fun.';

that was the last message im going to send to her. She read that a few hours after I sent it and didn't even bother to respond.! She was a laptop which means she could be keeping my man from using it...

Believe me he loves me, everyone around can tell he does..

What are some tips that can get me through this hard time until he comes back, and until he messages me.?

    Please help.!

And if it was true love wouldn't he find a way asap to contact me.??Please help. i know its long, but please your help would be wonderful.!?
This is a tough one. I can only imagine how miserable you are sitting by the computer and your phone waiting to hear from him. Unfortunately, looks like his mom is in control and since he lives under her roof, he has to abide by her rules. Does your man have a cell phone? If not, that may be a good Christmas gift you can get him. You mentioned he has Myspace but hasn't been on in a while... I suggest you leave him a message letting him know how much you love him and miss him, when he reads it he will contact you.

Also, keep in mind he is probably very busy moving into the new house and getting things situated right now. I'm sure he thinks about you all the time. I'm sure the long-distance thing is killing him too. Give this time... everything works out in the end. I know it's hard, but have patience and you'll get through this. If you need something to occupy your time, start a hobby or put together a collage of pictures of you two. Hope this helps...

    DJing question..? Really need help.?

Ok, so I'm djing for a graduation party. I've not really dj'ed before, and I don't know what all i would need to do. This is more of an equipment question...

I have a mic, amp, 2 speakers, and a small mixing board with 4 channels. I don't have turntables, just a laptop, and I have a 3.5mm male-to-male stereo cable. I just need to get the music from my laptop to play out of the speakers, nothing fancy. Please, please, please, can anyone tell me how to set all of this up and the settings to be able to make it sound good? I just need to know everything I need to do to be able to get the music out of the speakers.

Thank you so so so so much in advance.DJing question..? Really need help.?
first off, set up your gear in your basement or garage and do a test run of everything! your going to want to hook up your laptop to your preamp/mixer, to do that get a plug that connects to the ear jack from your laptop and then to your mixer. your going to want to bring up the music first to get it started to ';cue it'; up as its called. use a set of headphones to listen to the cueing. also your going to need a program to cue up your music while the other one is playing. so do an internet search for a DJ program. also, make sure you take requests and print out a list of songs for the crowd to select. that way there wont be any problems when someone asks for a song, you'll have it ready and all cued up. dont forget to announce something like, ';this goes out to ';frank'; '; or whom ever requested it. but i can stress enough to just pratice while your alone. and download the latest songs. hope this helps!

    regards, jeff

Anyway to connect my Numark 818 Fusion turntables & mixer to my laptop?

I have the Numark 818 Fusion package that comes with 2 turntables %26amp; a mixer. Its a really nice set and I'm pleased with it but the only problem is that no one can seem to tell me how to connect to my computer via usb or sound cards or whatever. I'd like to use my turntables on a program I have for my laptop to produce music. I know that Numark just came out with turntables that allow you to do so but I DJ with CDs and those are for vinyl. I love my set and don't want to get rid of it so if anybody knows a way to use them on the computer without buying a whole new set, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a Dell inspiron 1521 laptop with vista on it, if that helps.Anyway to connect my Numark 818 Fusion turntables %26amp; mixer to my laptop?
If it doesn't have a usb connector, connect it to the line in jack. If it does have usb, you might need to download a driver from the manufacturer's web site.

A few questions on how to DJ?

hey guys, im 16 and i want to learn how to dj as a hobby. there are a few things i really dont understand though, like i dont know how to actually do it or how it works but i have to start somewhere right?

    1) i heard you can use cd's instead of vinyls now? is there any advantages or anything to using cd's or is it just because vinyls are being phased out?

    2) if i buy a 2 channel mixer and two cd players, how do i mix songs together? i assume i burn two cds with tracks and mix from one cd then mix from the other etc?

    3) if i have a 2 channel mixer and two cd players and i play a mix, how do i get that mix onto my computer? what program can i use to upload it onto my laptop then to save it.

yeah as i said, stupid questions but i dont know anything about it but im wanting to learn.A few questions on how to DJ?

How to attach my cars subwoofer to a laptop?

hey I was just wondering if anybody could help me I'm setting up a little dj system nothing special i have a couple speakers and a 900watt subwoofer with all the wires and a dell inspiron laptop and just wanted to know if there was a way to connect the sub to my laptop i also have all the wires and amp this came out of my car

thanks, caseyHow to attach my cars subwoofer to a laptop?
It's very difficult to run a 12V car amp on house power. I did it briefly by connecting it to a car battery connected to a battery charger. I'm just saying I did it. I'm not recommending you do it because apparently that was dangerous both to my health and to my equipment.

If you can get around that (like with an actual 120V amplifier that can handle your speakers which are likely 4ohm) you'll need some sort of signal processor to be sure the subs only get the low frequencies and not the highs and then you'll need a whole separate setup to amp those high frequencies so you don't just hear bass....

...why are you doing this again? lol

To the guy that recommended the computer power supply: That's only slightly less dangerous than the car battery method. At least there aren't a bunch of acids involved! If you bought the biggest power supply you could find it might work at low volumes, but this is all still a terrible idea. How to attach my cars subwoofer to a laptop?
    Yes, it can be done!

What you need to do is....

Purchase an RCA-to Headphone Jack Cable. This will connect the output of the laptop's sound to the input on either the amp, or the amplifier, or etc...

If you need a +12V constant, what you can do is setup a ghetto amplifier - that is: purchase a computer powersupply, and then use it as an amplifier. I would not recommend that you purchase multiple ones because they may not be on the same frequency, but you can try.

Then its just like in the car. The computer powersupply will provide the 12 volts and you should be set?

How can I hook a BEHRINGER DJX700 mixer to a laptop, so i cant use it with Seratos or virtual DJ?

All you need is a RCA to 3.5mm cable - the RCA ends connect to the mixer's tape output and the 3.5mm ends connect to the computer line in (blue connector):

Bringing in used electronics from another country?

I am a bedroom DJ and own DJ equipment. I did not bring them with me when I moved to Egypt. Can I bring the equipment (placed in a flight case and weighing 40 Kgs) via cargo on flight/ship or through FedEx/DHL without paying a BOMB :)?? Would the electronic gear be subjected to Custom duty even if it is not brand new?? If yes, how much?

I was wondering since you can carry a laptop without paying any duty at the airport, will the same apply in this instance? I'm ignorant with regards to policies applicable in Egypt. Any help or insight will be highly appreciated.

Is there a website where I can get answers to these questions in case no one has faced this dilemma.

Thanks in advance!Bringing in used electronics from another country?
you wont find a list on such goods .

a laptop is something personal , so it is different .

if you bring the DJ equipment with you , it might pass .

if you bring it via cargo , you will pay according to the mood of the officials .

it is best if the company that brings it to Egypt brings it to your address .

this can be done by paying the company fees for transportation and taxes .

    or

by paying the transportation fees , then paying the taxes on delivery .

im saying this bec from my experience , it is best that you dont go yourself to the Cargo Center at the airport .

when you go , you pay more .

just stay at home , and they would bring it to you together with the tax receipt .

How to get my computer runnin normal again?

i have an fairly old sony viao laptop. about a week and a half ago i had the total security malware removed off my computer but i think there is something it left behind. my laptop has been fine ever since it stopped. the only thing is that this message kept popping up every 5-15 minutes saying your computer might be infected with spyware update to remove. and with me previously dealing with total security and not knowing where it came from i declined. but it constantly kept coming back. then like 2 days ago it came back and i was typing and right before i pressed enter the message popped up and it pressed yes. so the program called protection system started to install and i tried to cancel it by pressing no but it just kept minimizing instead. i didnt not kno what to do and i did not want the program to fully install so i turned off my computer by holding the shutdown button then turned it back on and everything was working fine but soon after i contiously got messages from norton about trojans and stuff and i contiously press resolve or fix or w.e. soon after my laptop said scvhost or something was trying to access the internet so i put always block but it recommended tht i put allow but i felt it was unsafe so i blocked it then after that my wireless and other network connection icons(the icons that tell if u r connected to the internet. the 1 and 2 computer icons tht show up in the start toolbar) disappeared so i go to the control panel to reopen them. and its not there the only type of connection was something like 1397 connection. so i start listen 2 music and then all of a sudden my computer freezes so i shutdown with the button and whenever i start it up the iconsdont show or the toolbar and if it does it takes like 7-10 mnutes if i let it sit and then when i do see it. it is only some of them do and they dont open and when u go to the tool bar u get the hourglass so u cant click on anything and whenever i try to run in safe mode it just restarts. there was one time last nite that where my computer stared correctly(not in safe mode)) stared correctly but with no networking then i wwas listen to music on vitual dj becuse itunes suddenly started missing a file. then i stopped the music and tried to make it hibernate so i wouldnt lose this oppuritunity to fix it so i closed the laptop but it didnt hibernate it juststayed on then i noticed it froze so i shutdown and tried it again but now it went back to the same thing. no icons now start toolbar no netorking.can someone help please i need my laptopto work! How to get my computer runnin normal again?

Is There Still Hope With A Male Friend Being More?

    Hi there,

Am very confused and keeping swaying from one conclusion to another so I needed some outside perspectives to help me see clearly on this!

I have developed feelings for one of my male friends. He's quite a few years older than me and we met a few months ago via a mutual friend. The impression I got from him and from what my friend told me was that he was interested and described me as ';hot'; (his word apparently!!). Anyway he was incredibly shy that night and I didn't think any more of it.

Anyway, our mutual friend suggested I send him a friend's request on Facebook which I did and we got chatting a little bit about general things and finding out a bit more about each other - he seemed really keen whereas, at that point, I wasn't really feeling anything. I mentioned to him about a problem I was having with my laptop and he offered to help me out with it. I still felt he was keen to spend time with me but wasn't sure of my feelings so I kept things casual and didn't initiate a meeting. Anyway, just before last Christmas he did eventually end up coming to my place to help out. He had even bought me a bottle of wine as a Christmas present and got a little present for my cat! So we got to spend some time together but we were both pretty shy on that occasion so not much came out of it.

We kept up contact via texts, calls and Facebook which have been really lovely and came over a couple more times; he told me that I really made him relax and felt like he had known me for years, then he was due to come over for coffee a few weeks ago which he did do but I had broken my toilet that day and desperately needed to get something to fix it. I don't drive so I sent a text to him to ask him if he could just take me somewhere to get what I needed. He agreed to do that with no complaint or fuss. We went out, got the stuff, I told him how much it meant that he'd taken time to help me out and then we got back to mine where he insisted that he fixed my toilet for me - I tried to say no, as he had already done loads for me, but he just went ahead and did it, I jokingly declared him my hero!

My birthday was only this weekend past and I had organised a party, he offered to help me out on that as he does some dj'ing. A couple weeks before the party he text me about the music for the night and asked me if we could have the last dance together and dance to Aerosmith's ';Don't Wanna Miss A Thing'; - I still felt unsure about things but texted back saying yes. He ended up offering to dj for my party for free (he had turned down a paid job to do this favour for me). So the night of my party he did indeed do a great job of dj'ing and keeping everyone entertained and then it hit me how much he had done for me and all these feelings which, I think, have been developing quietly away in the background came rushing forward! I kept nipping into the dj booth to chat to him and did a lot of arm touching with him, we even had a quick peck on the lips and this was in front of other people (my friends, not his). Towards the end of the night the suggestion of the last dance came back to me and I wanted to initiate something before it was too late. I had to mention it twice but he agreed to it.

So he put the song on and I thought we would do some non-intimate, ballroom style stance but he put his arms round my waist and I found my arms around his neck and looking him straight in the eye. I felt a lot of rushing emotions at this point and, convinced he felt the same, went in for the kill and let on that I saw him as more than a friend.........that's when I got the shock of my life and he said he wasn't interested in a relationship with anyone and didn't want to ruin our friendship. I was heartbroken at this point and shocked but we carried on dancing together and it was a lovely moment between us. He came back to mine for coffee after the party but it felt awkward because I was still feeling really rejected. When he went to leave he seemed concerned about me being upset, we kissed again on the lips but nothing too initimate, and we hugged. He said he saw me as a special friend and then said no it was more than that, I was important.

So, we are still friends now and he says he not ready for anything more right now but wants to get to know me better. He has been quieter with me for the last couple days since this happened. I know he is known to be very shy when it comes to this sort of thing. I am very confused; friends said that when they saw us at the party that he seemed really keen and I should stick at it but if he's really keen then why did he say he's not interested?

Not sure what to do or how to play it now - I really like him much more than a friend but I don't want to hold onto hope if there is nothing to hope for............any help, advice, perspectives would be most appreciated!!

    Thanks

what are some good Vinyl Records to Scratch to?

THANKS! =)Do I Need More Than Just this TURNTABLE Package / What are some good Vinyl Albums to scratch with?
You'll need some speakers, an amp and a lead to connect that to your mixer. If you have a hi - fi with an auxiliary input (two small jack inputs, one white, one red) at the back, that will probably do to get you started, but you will want to upgrade your sound system at some point.

You would only use a laptop in conjunction with turntables if you are using Serato to play MP3's through time-coded vinyl. That's a whole different game altogether, but one you might look into in the future. Serato costs about 拢300 - 400, but you can use your free (or very cheap) MP3's to DJ with it. Vinyl records are at least 拢5 each, and you'll be buying new ones all the time.

DJ Rectangle and many others make some great records for scratching with called 'battle weapons'. Essentially, rather than whole tracks, they're more like collections of individual sounds, noises and loops. They're a great place to start to learn how to scratch. Eventually you'll be able to work out what sounds from individual tunes sound good too. It does take a lot of practise to get good at scratching.

    Have fun.

Help with my grandma's neighbor =x?

So I've known my grandma's neighbor ever since I was little. I used to go to her house when my grandma was busy, so I know her really well.

Anyway, she has a son that I've been doing a lot of favors for lately. He recently bought a Wii and he didn't want to buy games for it because he didn't have a lot of money, so he asked if I knew how to mess with it so that I could get free games on it. It took me several hours to figure out how to actually get it to play homemade games and the he asked for over 50 games (each game takes about 4 hours to download, so I spent a lot of time getting them) =x Anyway I ended up getting most of the games and I even gave him a hard drive worth $250 to store the games on and my mom got really mad that I didn't charge him. He has money saved up, but I felt bad about taking it (not that he offered any =x)

Now, he wants me to fix a really expensive broken laptop that he got from someone and he wants me to install all sorts of DJ and movie/photo editing software =x

Should I not do it? My mom gets really mad when I do things like this for other people and don't get paid. She says I'm too nice to be spending hours doing these things for him and never getting anything back =x I really don't mind, but I was wondering what you guys think ^^Help with my grandma's neighbor =x?
If you don't wish to do it, tell him you don't have time. Be honest. Just don't take the laptop and be half hearted about it, because you'll get to the begrudging stage and work slow on it. Then he'll be on you about finishing it. It's good to do things for people for nothing, but don't let people use your good nature.Help with my grandma's neighbor =x?
Tell him you don't have time! Don't get used, it's not worth it in today's economy! And you don't want to make your mom even more mad!
I think the situation is stable.
I think you've done enough for him...
Don't do it. He's asking for too much from you.
    hi
i would say it's to hard to do
i think you should follow your heart..if you cant then say no

Djs! help me! I need guidance!?

Ok, I have been reading and studying turntables for a while now and I really want to get one. Currently I use a laptop with windows vista and I have reason 3.0 for my music program along with a 25 key midi m-audio keyboard for beats. I really want to scratch up my songs that ive made but they are in mp3 format and Im not famous enough to get vinyl versions of my songs. I need a turntable that I can hook up to my laptop so I can scratch the mp3's in from my hard drive. I want to be able to record it that way also so I can always listen to the scratched versions of my songs. I am pretty strapped for cash so I really dont want to spend over $200, maybe $250 at max. Please help me find out what kind of turntable set up I need, I really want to learn how to DJ because I just love the way the scratches sound when its done right and well and I think it would be a phenomenal way of expressing myself.Djs! help me! How to connect my computer to tv?

I was wondering how I could connect my laptop computer to a television for both picture and sound to be played through the television. My laptop has standard monitor ouput (15 pin connector) standard microphone and headphone jacks, and usb drives. Is there anyway that I can do this? If not what about my computer that has standard outputs you find on most computers. (Is there a card to plug into the pci slot)

I am trying to use my laptop or computer to play karaoke (mp3+g) files. I want it to show up on a tv (with component(red, white, yellow) and coaxial inputs). But at the very least I can use my laptop screen if I can find a way to get sound to my dj equipment (easiest would probably be component (red, white) cable).

OR if you know whether there is a player that will play mp3+g files so I can burn a lot of mp3+g files to cd rather than needing a lot of cds to burn cd+g files to.How to connect my computer to tv?
Its more a TV thing than a computer thing, if you have a flat screen TV you can prob do this otherwise I say, dont bother because the reolution will be so crappy you want to shoot urself in the face.

If you have a flat screen, see if it has the VGA (15pin monitor out) and u can use that, or if your tv does component ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video ) u can get a vga to to component adapter.

If you have composite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video) i say dont bother.

What should I do to face my employer?

    ok.

I had dj this party with this guy and apparently he is the best dj in the area but we agreed on that we would use 1 laptop and my desktop. He didn't bring his laptop and we used my desktop. This happened last year with another guy. Anyways he didn't help set up or anything. all he did was be a dick and use my computer. He showed up drunk etc mix of some other stuff and almost broke my computer set up (which was 800+ USD) so pretty much my night was regulating his destructive ways (eg the mixer being controlled so that speakeasiesrs don't blow, making sure my computer didn't break) So whenever something happened there were mixed reactions from the crowd. The result of the night was reviewed as bad techno and not a harmonious integration of hip hopp (which is understandable because there are like a total of 10 popular hip hop transition songs). so now the questionn is: being that on monday that i have to talk to the employer to hear how horrible the party went and how its apparently going ot be my fault because of the problems last night. What should I do to face my employer?

Calm down and take a breath... you are going to have to ask the people who gave it to you what the password is. That is the only answer.

  • How to upgrade my djing?....?

I've had my dj setup for about a year with serano scratch live on my laptop.

I've wanted to get into producing for awhile and I've resently tried out logic on my friends mac.

I've wanted to upgrade my laptop so I'm buying a mac. What mac would be the best at running serano scratch live, logic, ableton and virtual dj? I was thinking a 21.5'; iMac or a macbookpro. How to upgrade my djing?....?
Never buy Mac. A Desktop from Walmart with Windows already installed is better than ANY MAC ANYWHERE even when updgrades.

Not sure how to wire my loud speakers?

Ok, so I have two B215A's by Behringer and they have one 1/4'; input, one XLR input, and one XLR link output. I plan to hook these up to my laptop so I can run my DJ software. What I originally planed was using a 1/4'; with a 1/8'; adapter from the laptop to the first speaker. Then using a XLR female to 1/4'; female adapter on the XLR link output of the first speaker and a 1/4'; cable to the 1/4'; input of the second speaker. Does anyone think this will work or should I go a different route? Not sure how to wire my loud speakers?
If you can switch the speakers' XLR's to line level, I'd try an 1/8'; to XLR out of the laptop to the first speaker, and gang the speakers XLR to XLR. Make sure all 3 devices are drawing current from the same circuit.

Can't see a real advantage or disadvantage in using both 1/8'; outs.

I'm extremely interested in learning how to dj and mix. How do I start?

My dad used to dabble with it when he was younger. He was the chief engineer over a radio station when I was younger for a short period of time. I remember going up to the radio station to see him. I'm obsessed with music, love it. Indie, and underground, I love it. House, trance, electro, hip hop, rap, indie... I see nothing wrong with sound. I'm currently a film student, going towards the documentary end. But I want to start learning how to mix. How do I start? I know the use of laptops and some small mixing devices are involved. Or what about turntables? I'm so lost. haha.I'm extremely interested in learning how to dj and mix. How do I start?

If you are new to recording there is a lot to be learned. I am not familiar with FL as I use CUBASE. Looking on their site I found that they have a mixer included with the software. That is what you will use to mix the tracks.

How do I get started with Softsynth/Sequencing on a Laptop?

I need somewhere to get started... there seems to be so many options for making music on a computer these days. I play traditional piano and clarinet and want to get (back) into composing and arranging. Can somebody provide a website or some other reference to make sense out of all the options in the computer music software scene? Some particular wishes:

I would like to create my own scores, play them with virtual instruments and print out the parts for friends to play along with. I would like to create my own drum patterns (and other percussion), use odd time signatures, and create sounds (but not necessarily sample sounds). In other words I don't need a ';dj-oriented looping sequencer';. Any ideas on how to get started? How do I get started with Softsynth/Sequencing on a Laptop?
You can try googling ';download make music staff notation software'; if you want a program that caters more towards those who prefer the music staff. I believe a few different DAWs support staff notation... Pro Tools, Cakewalk... Sibelius, I believe.

After a quick google... yes, check out Sibelius. Link below.

Most DAW's use midi piano roll notation, which although isn't necessarily going to be as easy to read and understand in terms of musical notation, once you get used to it its not too difficult to translate across.

I also googled ';download make music staff notation software support vsti'; to look for programs that specifically support VSTi's... this is the ';virtual instrument'; style of plugin, one that is more or less universal throughout different types of editors, so hopefully that search will help you out a little more as well.

I found Finale that way.... at least some versions of it support this type of format. Again, something worth looking at - link below.

I, personally, have always tried to approach music as cheaply as possible.... Reaper is an example of a multitracking program that supports these types of plugins, virtual instruments and effects, etc. It uses a MIDI piano roll, but that works decently for me. It has a very, very generous trial period, and buying it is very inexpensive compared to many programs with similar features (ie Pro Tools!).

Link below to that, as well.

Finally, I don't know where you're at in terms of just knowledge, but I know that the KVR Audio page has at least some information to get started. It also has a big database of plugins, editors, etc. I look for free/cheap plugins and virtual instruments there all the time!

    Link below, etc.

I hope some of this has helped.... good luck!

PS If you're recording, don't forget to look up latency compensation!

SaulHow do I get started with Softsynth/Sequencing on a Laptop?
    Get a DAW such as Cubase/Nuendo/Pro Tools/Reaper.

Get a load of VST instruments and install them for whichever DAW you've got (as simple as putting the .dll in your VST folder).

How do you deal with a dissatisfied customer?

i own a mobile dj business, i did a job last saturday night where i thought all went well (no complaints on the night). Received a phone call on thursday from the customer with several complaints. Not enough of requested music style played (80's). Didn't have certain requests (we have 10,000 song titles at least). Didn't take any cd's (used a laptop computer). 50% of songs played were from the 80's, another 30% filled in his requested music choices, the rest was filled with his guests requests. He left a message on my machine just wondering how to proceed? How do you deal with a dissatisfied customer?
First decide if this is a client you'll work for again. If not, then see if he specified anywhere in your breif that he wanted what he's commenting about now. If not, then you provided what was required. The customer is not always right - that's why he hired you. Be fair, but firm. If you're going to work for him again you may want to get him to specify in a document exactly what he wants. Either way, make it clear you expect to be paid. How do you deal with a dissatisfied customer?
Either apologize, explain and try to make up, or else consider it a gone case and look for other customers, taking precautions not to lose them again.
you deal with it. the customer knows best. thats what your job is. well, if he is abusive, talk with him and tell him that what you do is what it really is.. confusing, eh? :D

I have seen it done in many dj karaoke shows... I am a dj myself and would like to ask this community the easiest way to to this... With the least amount of hassel and cords...How do i connect my vaio laptop to an external pc monitor and an external tv?
Get the cable S-Video for the TV (but the sound will get out of the computer, you will need an adapter from the plug of headset to the TV, like a RCA cable without the yellow tip cause the S-video will replace it as a better resolution quality)

If you have a DVI/VGA plug on the laptop, you will be able to plug it on the computer monitorHow do i connect my vaio laptop to an external pc monitor and an external tv?
take the vga cable and plug one end into tv, the other in your laptop. then click fn f8 and it should go, make sure tv is on right mode.

you might also have hdmi, so you can plus hdmi in one end, and in the tv and press fn f8
There is a special cord... just go to radio shack or your local electronic store and ask them for one.

you can use the headphone jack on your laptop, if it doesnt have an audio out, which it should. Go to radio shack and get the right cable, should be a mini to rca, then you can plug the rca's into whatever equipment you want to play through.

If it doesnt have an audio jack or headphone jack, you can get the soundblaster audigy external, it's usb and will give you audio outputs.

What you really need to dj?

so i dont have a laptop, i just have a desktop and a harddrive full of good music and i'm always getting more. all styles and time periods. i have an i pod, a cd walkman, and a mixer that is called a eurorack ub802, i havent really utilized any of this stuff yet, i've been djing occasionally at a bar, but i just plug my hard drive into their laptop and play songs, but i dont have the equipment nor have i fully learned the craft of mixing to tracks together. id like to be able to mix so i can make the music more engaging (not so much so there is continuous same bpm music) with clever allusions and similar lyrics or beats one after the other and so i can play the better part of a song and lead to the next without playing a 5 minute track in it's entirety with a simple fade out.

SO, anyway. i'm wondering if anyone has a creative idea for how i can start djing soon, or if you think i will need to buy a laptop so i can get serato or trakto or something like that. thanks! What you really need to dj?

Please forgo those private $$ career/tech schools and instead opt for the more affordable community college and traditional university.

    DJ Equipment Question?

So im looking to get into DJing, but i dont really know what kind of equipment id need? Obviously im a beginner, so i wouldnt be doing much scratching or anything (atleast not till i learn more). I thinking just learning how to mix songs i guess, you know, for some parties and such.

What kind of equipment would i need? I see djs at clubs with turntables that use vinyl, then i see others with ones hooked up to a laptop, then others hooked up to a laptop but no vinyl. Its kinda confusing...

Can anyone shine some light on this matter for me?

    ThanksDJ Equipment Question?
To start off, you're going to most likely need a laptop, obviously. Now, with this, you're going to want at MINIMUM to buy a cheap amplifier (around 100 dollars or so) and speakers (50-100 dollars as well). With this, you're going to want to purchase the program ';Virtual DJ'; which is very good for mixing music and such. (if you're not into mixing and everything, just make a playlist.)

You won't need a mixer or turntable to start off with so soon, but think about purchasing them as you improve more at DJing.

Also, purchase some fog machines or lighting equipment, as it could come really handy at certain parties.

If you want a good site to purchase cheap Djing equipment and sets, go to the one I always use http://www.cheapdjgear.us

On the left you'll see the certain equipment seperated from each other. Just browse through them and purchase what need be.

**ALSO** NEVER DJ using speakers plugged directly into your computer. It will blow out your system and speakers and really mess things up, so make sure you purchase an amp with the speakers you get, and make sure the watts on the amp support the speakers you purchase.

    Good luck!

  • Anyway to connect my Numark 818 Fusion turntables & mixer to my laptop?

I have the Numark 818 Fusion package that comes with 2 turntables %26amp; a mixer. Its a really nice set and I'm pleased with it but the only problem is that no one can seem to tell me how to connect to my computer via usb or sound cards or whatever. I'd like to use my turntables on a program I have for my laptop to produce music. I know that Numark just came out with turntables that allow you to do so but I DJ with CDs and those are for vinyl. I have a Dell inspiron 1521 laptop with vista on it, if that helps.

Whats the best way to be an e-DJ??

Basically I love a bit of dance music but am also a traveller. I travel with my laptop and find myself hosting partys with it playing mp3's quite alot and wouldnt mind learning how to mix them as you would with vinyls. obviously i dont want to travel around with decks.

Ive tried ableton but it seems quite complicated. All i want is to be able to have audio out from the speakers and the other track in some headphones. and obviously wouldnt mind the 2 tracks im trying to mix to be in time with eachother either...

Also i spose im willing to play with ableton a bit more...does any1 know of any websites that could give me a few (free) tutorials for a beginner DJ?Whats the best way to be an e-DJ??
Man if you want to do this 搂hit then you have to be willing to put some time and money down on the table. So what if Ableton is hard, stick with it because it's the best out there. I still have volume 5 and I havent had a need to upgrade it because of how usefull it is.

It kind of depends on what kind of output you can do on that turntable. If you can get RCA out on it (red/white) then you can find something that looks like a Y cable that'll let you connect it into a 3.5mm port like the mic port on your computer.

I personally am not an expert on the subject, but oddly enough I was watching an episode of Tekzilla that was adressing USB turntables and applications to work with Vinyl music. The host however uses an old school turntable with a pre-amp. Which he goes into a little bit of detail, and the episode page has links to more info.

How to start out as a digital DJ (What to buy etc) ?

I love music and have an intrest in becoming a DJ. I think that buying a simple usb mixing kit (with like headphones, mic and a mixer sorta thing) would be best because i have a large cd collection that I can put on my laptop rather than buying Vinyls. I am a complete novice at anything like this though and am abit worried i wont have an utter clue what im doing so are their like tutorial dvds and stuff i could buy also?

To get started you will need a DJ dual cd player and a mixer and headphones. That is all you need to get started.

If you plan to DJ for an audience, you will need an amp and speakers or powered speakers (speakers with an amp built in).

There probably are videos, but the best thing to do is get the equipment and practice with it.

John - Djing is a fun hobby.

Yes, most DJ use CD's now. Vinyl is great but they are harder to find and a lot more expensive.

All you need to do is connect the CD players to the mixer. The mixer will allow you to play one or the other or a mix of both during transitions. It is really not hard. Blending the two songs together will take a bit af practice. I would recommend getting a DJ dual cd player - it will make Djing much easier:

    http://www.zzounds.com/item--NUMCDN25

If you want to record all you need to do is connect the ';tape output'; of the DJ mixer to your computer using a standard 3.5mm to RCA cable. Very easy. A USB audio interface will give you better sound though. Any computer recording software will work.

Some DJ just use a laptop now too. You will still need a mixer.

If you plan to DJ for an audience, you will need speakers and an amp.

  • Little long, but please help a fellow music lover/aspiring DJ. I need a little (lot) of advice please?

I am a 15 year old guy who has recently discovered the wonderful danceable nature of techno/trance.

Now, the music that is generally played at dances at my school is truly terrible and we also have a terrible DJ, and for people who have any sense of what's good music, this makes the dances significantly less enjoyable. Now, I've been thinking about how to change this so people enjoy themselves more, and I've decided to volunteer to be the school DJ next year, to try to get better mixes going for the school.

my problem is this: I have no experience DJ-ing, very little techno (although I plan to get a whole lot of the stuff you have in your mix videos), and no idea how to go about this whole affair. I would like to try to learn over the summer though, and as a fellow lover of fine dance beats, I would like to enlist your help in my endeavor.

    so here are my questions:

    1. what equipment and software do I need (speakers etc. provided of course, but I'm due to get a new laptop, and advice on good models would be most helpful, as well as whatever programs are helpful in DJing projects)

    2. Could you suggest some good mixes to get me started practicing with, or just artists, or really anything to do with the tracks, also, I don't really have a job so I was hoping some advice on getting large quantities of music for low prices (buying in bulk? I dunno.)

    3. And finally, I need ways to practice, advice on what makes a good mix, all the thittle things that add up to a really great job as a DJ. Just so you know, I'm a professional musician, and I know what good music sounds like etc., also, I love all types of music, so mixes with things other than techno/trance are just as good.

Thank you so much, your help is greatly appreciated,

--ToesLittle long, but please help a fellow music lover/aspiring DJ. I need a little (lot) of advice please?
Toes, you sound like an intelligent and thoughtful guy who will go far with just a little help. So here's what to do: hook up with some local DJs who are good at what they do. Maybe offer to help them carry their gear in exchange for some DJing lessons. DJing is not that hard, but you'll learn a lot faster if you are shown the basics by someone who has mastered them already.

What kinda speakers do i need for dj-ing for weddings/proms/school dance?

I'm startin to get involved in dj-ing, but i want to make sure i find and pick the right speakers 1st. I've been looking at speakers that range from 300watts to 600 watts. Im curios, as to what would be the ideal amount of watts to use for certian functions. Im generally going to be dj-ing for weddings and school dances. Also, im running on a small budget, so i want to know how much i would need, so i can keep my pocket from going empty. I don't want to buy 600 watt speakers, and only have to use half of it's power. And i don't to buy 300 watt speakers, and twice as much power! And i want to know if perhaps, i would need speakers that have more than 600 watts? Im new to dj-ing obviously, so any help is appreciated. I recently bought the numark mobile dj-in-a-box package, so i can get started on mixing and what not, but now i need to look into getting speakers, so i can play these mixes and hear how they'll sound on my actual potential speakers. I also noticed that many speakers for sale come with amps, so do i really need an amp, or are there speakers out there with built in amp, so i can simply connect the speakers to my laptop via RCA audio cables? because i don't want to go through the hassle of buying an amp, if i don't need to. But if having an amp brings out much better quality, then i guess i'll have to buy it. PLZZZZ HELP!!

if this is of any help, im using CUE 5.0, NUMARK TOTAL CONTROL BOARD, Treaktor LE, and an DJIO interface. What kinda speakers do i need for dj-ing for weddings/proms/school dance?
Hello! First thing is please be aware that 600w is not twice as loud as 300W... 3,000W is twice as loud as 300W as sound works on a logarithmic scale. Worrying, I know, but trust me. The answer to what you should buy is whatever you can afford and what sort of places you will be playing.

Yes you can buy speakers with an amplifier built in, these are known as active speakers, and are a handier if you are going to have the same set-up each time (which in your case I think is true). Professional audio companies use separate amps as this gives greater versatility with regards to setups and multi speaker arrays but then you have to worry about impedance matching and all sorts of other stuff you don't want to concern yourself with. With regards to quality of sound, don't worry. A built in amp will be matched to the speaker and so long as you buy from a reputable brand (eg. Mackie or Peavey) you shouldn't need to worry and 99.99999% of people wouldn't be able to hear the difference anyway. With regards to cabling most active speakers will have an XLR (that's the three pin plug) on the back so you will need cables from your mixer/laptop output to two (normally) male XLRs (you will need two of these obviously - one for each speaker) and you also need to remember that you speakers will require power so you will need power leads to plug them in to the wall.

All that said, go for what you can afford. 300W should be plenty, if you find yourself doing bigger and better gigs then you should have some cash to upgrade and maybe up the power and buy a couple of sub speakers as well if you find yourself playing very big venues. Again most big venues will have a tailored house PA system you can plug into.

Hope this helpsWhat kinda speakers do i need for dj-ing for weddings/proms/school dance?

I have two Acoustic Audio BR12 1000 watt rms/pair with an impedance of 8 ohms, and an 800 watt thump dj system which has dual 8';subs and speakers in it with an impedance of 4 ohms. what size amp do i need? the two Acoustic Audio speakers can use heavy gauge speaker wire or dual standard 1/4'; jacks to connect them and the 800 watt speaker system uses regular speaker wire to connect. i only want to use the gold plated connectors for everything to have the highest possible quality sound. but very confused on what equipment i need... i want to hook up a laptop through usb, a wireless mic, and an ipod... how can i go about doing this with a limited budget? do i need a mixer? thanks...DJ connecting/speakers/speaker wire/amps/equipment/set up?

    DJ equipment question?

I'm trying to learn how to be a DJ, mixing and scratching, in a rock band with my friends. I don't have much money, so i'm looking for some turntables that's cheap but also allows me to easily access my music from cds, mp3 players (i have a zune), flash drives, a laptop, or built in memory, whatever works. I know walmart probably isn't the best place to be looking but i found this http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d鈥?/a> there and it seems to be ok for what i want. i researched it elsewhere but couldn't find any personal reviews about it. Would you say it looks good? If not what would you say is a good set for around $500 or less?DJ equipment question?
Turntables play records. Are you looking to mix vinyl or digital music? If you want digital, then you don't want turntables. You just need a mixer.DJ equipment question?
Serato scratch live is what you want, not that cheap walmart trash, but you'll have to drop the extra $ on some turntables, used or otherwise. if you buy decks, make sure to get direct drive, at any expense.
Look at Musicians Friend on the web, they have this sort of equipment... Most likely a much better quality as well.

  • What dj equipment to get for house parties?

I'm trying to figure out what type of equipment I should get to dj at some house parties. I'm not trying to go pro or anything so I would like to spend less than $1000. I just something to have fun and learn djing as a hobby. I'm looking for a system that you can scratch and use effects. I more into the rap %26amp; hip hop genre for dancing and such. I was looking at using a midi dj controller, such as the vestax vci 100, but buying addition equipment to have sound (soundcard) is something im not looking for. I was looking at the IDJ2, but I don't know how good of a system it is. I have a laptop so whatever equipment works with that is a possibility as well. I was also was looking at the b52 prodigy fx, so if anyone has one let me know what it is like. I know i've said a lot but i appreciate any answers. Thanks a million! What dj equipment to get for house parties?
Get some mixers and Monitors. Actually go to Musiciansfriend.com and enter the DJ and lighting tab they should have what you are looking for.

Want to buy a lap top to DJ with, how do i split the channels so i can cue one deck with out playing tocrowd?

    ?

ok i currently dj with 2 cd players through a mixer, its easy i have a 4 channel mixer and 2 cd players, the head phone jack monitors any 1 of the 4 channels and the volume on the mixer allows you to play a cd to the crowd and another cd for me to listen through the head phones, very standard, we run a teenage night club, i dont dj but the guy who does just plugs into my system so his out put from his mixer goes into my mixers channel 3 then to the amps and so on, into his mixer he runs a device called scratch live with 2 turn tables for scratching and his lap top where he runs virtual dj also runs into the scratch live, he has vinyl on the turntables but dont play them when he scratches it just some how comes through the output, anyhow what i wanna do is get a laptop for my shows, i dont want to scratch or use vinyl i just want to be able to provide a quality sound and be able to listen to one channel while the other plays what do i need to do so, where do i start i have an external harddrive with alot of music what type of computer (laptop) would you recommend what soft ware hard ware etcWant to buy a lap top to DJ with, how do i split the channels so i can cue one deck with out playing tocrowd?
I think the strange-triangle stuff is simply spam.

You can get DJ software that cuts one songs as it starts the next, or fades in out etc. Or you need a laptop with an additional card that gives you an extra video card for that extra channel.Want to buy a lap top to DJ with, how do i split the channels so i can cue one deck with out playing tocrowd?

if your in Australia and want to Dj (to make money)

then you better have the money to buy the Copyright licences

or if you get caught then do not say you wasnt told

you need two sets of licences

    1 from www.ppca.com.au (dj licence to play @ $200 a year)

1 from www.aria.com.au (format shift Dj licence $800 a year)

if you get caught and do NOT have these licences then they can take all your gear and even jail you

DJ Kit For a Beginner :D?

Hey there. I am new to DJ'in and i was wondering what is a good way to start off. i have had a good search around the internet and i am fimiliar with the terms and what everything means and does but that still doesnt solve my problem of which way i should go. what i mean is wether to buy Vinyl decks, CDJ, or the USB Vinyl decks. Now im looking to become quite good at DJ'in and was hoping to do it at a few house partys when i get good at it and then see how i do afer that.

My problem with Vinyl is even though that have heard that u get the best scratch quality from them and all that, my only problem is that to get a good collection of vinyls it is gonna cost me quite a bit.

Secondly the problem with the CDJ is that.. well.. they are not really proper decks which i am reli interested in as u see in the clubs and that people use proper vinyl decks (most of the time. although i have seen a few use CDJ).

Thridly my problem with the USB Vinyl decks is that i would have to buy a laptop to go with the decks as my portable music libary

(oh and another quiestion.. do the USB decks use a peice of replica vinyl, and if they do can i get a good scratch sound out of them???)

so my main question is reli (looking at the factors which i have stated mainly to do with money) what should i go with.. CDJ, Vinyl decks, or USB Vinyl decks???

Any help would be appreicated very much :D ty everi1DJ Kit For a Beginner :D?
Okay, it really depends on how much money you want to invest, and who you want to make happy with that amount of money. If you're mainly looking to have fun with scratch etc, then i'd say get turntables. Vinyl is costly, but it's the most rewarding. Turntables, you can get moderately cheap at a guitar center or online. You can get a decent turntable for $150-$200 each. But, you'll still need a mixer, which will be around $100 for the basic model.

    My Equipment:

2 turntables, mixer, microphone, CDJ deck, laptop and external hard drive.

I started out dj'ing because i wanted to learn how to match beats, and learn how to make a trance set list.

For me, I had to buy turntables because my musical heroes were all using vinyl.

What equipment you want to buy is dependent upon what kind of dj you want to be. Party, Professional, Hip-hop, Electronica....

    Laptop DJ:

Good for doing free-lance djing (basically parties that you wouldn't want to be a part of). This includes 40th birthday parties, high school parties, wedding receptions... Any situation where people will be requesting songs from you. In this scenario, it doesn't matter what kind of equipment you have, or what skills you have, they just wanna hear their song and dance. Now that the internet offers alot of file sharing programs for finding virtually any song you want, you can amass a huge collection of digital files for low/no cost. Being a laptop dj is probably the most practical, but the least glamorous.

    Average Nightclub DJ:

CDJ decks, and will have a huge cd case that they will be using. Vinyl is a really costly medium, as are the needles and cartridges that will eventually go out on the turn tables.

    Style:

What kind of music you want to spin will determine what equipment you want.

    1. If you're going to be professionally dj'ing parties, people are going to request alot of songs. For this, it's best just to use your laptop, and get most of your music from the internet. Plus, a laptop is multi-function; you can use it for practical things other than making music.

    2. If you're into electronica, trance, breaks, etc... chances are you won't be taking requests; you want to take the crowd on a journey. That being said, you can go to a record store (a real record store that sells the latest singles), and drop $80 to get 8 records. You use those records to develop a set list, and spend your time practicing on transitions/beatmatching/mash-ups.

Records come about $10 a pop. If you're gonna go vinyl, try to find a dj who's looking to get out of it. I bought 400 records for $400 from 1 guy.

    Credibility:

Most people think of a party dj as having ';2 turn tables and a microphone';. And whenever you hear that someone is djing a party, half of the coolness comes from seeing what the dj is working with. To get the most credibility, use turntables and vinyl.

A common phrase used in the hardcore dj scene is: Real DJ's do it with 12';.

    Getting your music:

When i started dj'ing, napster was brand-new. Now, you can get virtually any song you want for free from the internet. Cost-wise, if you wanna get out of this as cheaply as possible, it'd be best to go digital. But again, you might lose credibility with the crowd.

That was a cluster of information, and i'm sorry it's not more organized, but if you're looking to play alot of informal parties, with lots of people, and you're goal is to play the music that everybody wants, i'd go with a laptop and cdj's at most, forget turntables.

If you're looking to develop a skill and you've got alot of respect for the art form of turntablism, then i'd get the tables, and buy a few records that you like, and spend some time having fun, seeing how the records fit together, mixing, scratching, etc.

I bought DJ Decks which is far from basic but does have an auto-advance/crossfade capability, usable with or without beat-matching. I don't know of very basic or free DJ software, but what you ask (crossfade with no beat-match from a playlist) can all be achieved at no cost using using Media Player or Winamp.

';invalid skin file (error line %i in the xml) on Virtual DJ!?

What does this mean? how can i make the program work? either this or ';PROTECTION something'; come up when i try to start the program and it never works, no matter how many times i restart my computer

I'd really appreciate a step by step guide of what to download and what link PLEASE

I have a HP laptop, with windows vista

thank you so much';invalid skin file (error line %i in the xml) on Virtual DJ!?
I don't know what Virtual DJ is, but a skin file is just the visual interface of the program (how it looks). It is a bad file so restarting your computer will not work. Try reinstalling the program. If it loads at all you could try switching the skin through the program. Otherwise contact the makers.

Also if this is something you download, you could try an old version.

How do I hook up Radio Speakers To A Laptop?

Im about to get a DJ job from one of my friends who is a bartender at a bar. She wants to fire the current DJ and wants me to take his spot. She told me I needed a laptop with songs on it to hook up to the speakers they have at the bar. Im not completely lost when it comes to PC's. But Sound cards and speakers are something i've never messed with. Im wondering if I bought a laptop, what I would need and how I would go about hooking up a laptop to speakers? The speakers are about 3 foot long and a foot wide if that helps! How do I hook up Radio Speakers To A Laptop?
Well if these are small speakers, then they might have a connecter, like a headphone jack, and u would just plug that to the green audio port on your laptop.

Depending if the bar is large, the speakers should be connected to an amp, cause your laptop would not be able to send enough volume to the speakers, and it would sound horrible. Usually for a laptop, you need another device, that connects to your laptop, that connects to the amp, by the Red and White wires, audio and stereo. Its like this.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Hercules-DJ-Control-MP3-Portable-USB-DJ-Mixer-801330-i1155673.gcHow do I hook up Radio Speakers To A Laptop?
Your best option for running your sound to external speakers will be to get a pcmcia sound card. They usually have a lot better sound quality and also have external connectors (usually one for connecting a mic and the other for connecting a set of speakers). This would allow you to connect the sound card in the laptop to an external amplifier (laptop sound is usually rather quiet) and then to the speakers at the bar.

Sound Blaster makes a pcmcia sound card and M-Audio makes usb sound card (they may have a pcmcia one but I'm not sure).

I have been wanting to DJ for many years now. I've tried different programs such as ACID Pro and Fruity Loops. I want to get into music such as Techno by Benassi Bros, Scooter, and Tune Up, with a good feel to it.

Being a DJ, DJ equipment, and making hip hop beats?

Okay, for a long time I've wanted to make beats, be a DJ/producer (as a hobby, maybe later on as something serious) and whatnot because my friends and I would like to make hip hop songs (for fun) and I have several questions about being a DJ, making Hip Hop beats, and the equipment needed.

Please forgive my ignorance on this subject : D

    1) Okay my first question kind of sounds a little bit...stupid, but, How do Hip Hop DJ's/Producers make music with their equipment? Is their equipment like a keyboard where they just press a key or button? Or is it all through sampling older songs?

    2) How would I record my music?

    3) What kind of equipmnt should a beginner buy? I'm looking for simple equipment to start with please. Im trying to keep it minimal.

    4) How much would this equipment cost? Remember Im trying to keep it minimal and Im on a budget.

    a. Whats the vinyl for? and how much are they?

    b. Can CD's be used in place of vinyl on turntables?

    5) Where could I buy this equipment? A music store? Electronic store such as Best Buy?

    5) Can I make beats without relying on my laptop for programs? Im asking because whenever I look on the internet on how to be a DJ they always mention computer programs. If this is so, then how did the first DJ's make music without computers?

(However I wouldnt mind using my laptop for this, Im just curious)

Im sorry my questions a worded kind of funny, but since I don't know much on the subject I didnt know what kind of terminology to use.

Thanks in advance guys! : DBeing a DJ, DJ equipment, and making hip hop beats?
Ah, this is about to be a lengthy response, but I think I can answer all of your questions if you're down to read them.

I'll go ahead and mention that being a ';DJ'; isn't exactly being somebody who ';makes beats';.. Even though it seems like few people noticed that. I'm not saying it's a big deal or anything like that haha, just mentioning it to you. Might be helpful to remember when you look for advice from people.

1-There are a ton of methods that people use. Too many to begin to try to list them off, actually. A lot of people do sample from other songs.. You can actually use samples with keyboards too. And of course, the classic drum machine is preferred by many. I know a few people who prefer to use an electronic drum set to make their beats, too. Sorry I'm not giving a ton of details just yet, but it really is such a wide subject.

    2-How you record would really depend on the methods you choose that I started to mention above. Chances are very high that you'll come to find yourself doing the recording on a computer. But it's worth mentioning.. Not all methods for making beats REQUIRE ';recording';

3- I'm assuming you mean hardware. There are a lot of options such as mpcs, keyboards, drum machines, ect... But when you're just getting into it, I'd suggest saving making purchases for a time when you're more aware on what it is you're doing and what you want out of your equipment and which products would suit you best. Just starting out though.. I'd say just browse some DAW (digital audio workstation) programs for your computer and check some out. There are some free ones, and there are some that cost money but offer decent demos you can download.. And of course, you could simply download a cracked version for free.. But that's illegal so I don't suggest doing that.

4- Well, how much the stuff costs depends on what you buy. The DAWs I mentioned above can range from $50-ish to well over $500! There are also some good ones that are completely free! It really depends on the operating system your computer runs on though. If you're on a Mac, you already have something called Garageband. Not amazing =\, but it gives you an idea of what it's like. The hardware though can range in price from $50-ish to well over $1000. You can usually get a decent midi controller (a keyboard or set of drum pads you hook up to your computer) for about $200... Give or take a little bit depending on what features you're looking for.

a)Vinyl is for sampling. If you're going with the more modern and.. well.. increasingly popular methods I've mentioned above (using a computer), you will probably not wind up buying any vinyl records for the sake of making beats. And these things vary in price. You can find them used in a music store for a few bucks.. Depends on the actual record itself and how rare it is and such most times.

b)CDs CAN be used in place as vinyl records on turntables (as well as other things such as MP3s). A good CD turntable will run you.. Uh.. Roughly $400-500 depending where you look. The features of these can be replicated (almost all of them, anyway) on a DAW though.. So unless you really prefer to use them for the hands-on factor, you probably wont want to get a cd turntable

5-Yeah, most music stores have stuff like this. You'll find MUCH more on the internet than you will in actual shops. If you have a Best Buy around you with a music section, they'll have a lot of stuff that would interest you. You can go in and actually play with the products too and get a feel of them =D (which is very important in my opinion). If your local BB DOESN'T have a music section, it will still have a handful of products you can go and check out though. But yeah, the internet will be your best friend when it comes to stuff like this.

6-You can make your music without relying on a computer, yeah.. But in all honesty, you'll find yourself spending a LOT more cash =\. Software is oftentimes more flexable than the hardware, and MUCH cheaper (sometimes free even),

It's really important to remember.. Just because you go the route of using your computer doesn't mean you're giving up the hands-on feel aspect of music production. MIDI Controllers, as I mentioned earlier, are instruments that can be plugged into your computer to control sounds. For example, I do not own a synthesizer.. But I own a midi keyboard controller. I hook it up to my PC and run a software synthesizer to it and I'm hitting keys and it's giving me the sounds =D Just like the real deal, but at a fraction of the price. You can get midi controllers that look like keyboards, drum sets, turntables, and just about anything else you could imagine.

Yeaaa, that was a bit long =\, sorry about that. Hopefully I helped though. If you're really interested in the subject, you might want to check out the link in my reference section. I'm fairly new to making music/beats myself (been doing it just over a year now) and have recently found this forum and haveBeing a DJ, DJ equipment, and making hip hop beats?
If you follow the link and torrent instructions you can get yourself a free full copy of FL studio XXL 8 Producers edition, and create all the beats you could ever want for free. http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4649193/FL_Studio_XXL_8___With_Crack
    tweakheadz.com
You seem to have a lot of questions but that's ok I have some really helpful answers. To sum up everything that you asked I will say this... You can buy a turntable that doesn't have to be expensive if you want to scratch or you can buy a digital mixer to mix Cd's how ever you want to do that is up to you.

As far as making beats the only thing that you will need is a laptop and some speakers along with a microphone. Yes you could make beats without the laptop but that route would be more expensive because then you would have to buy more equipment like track mixers, eq's, re-verb machines etc.

But by using a beat making program and a laptop all of that is included in the program as well as thousands of sounds to use to make tracks with.

Some software you can buy right online and you can download it right after you buy it so you can start making beats right away especially if the software is easy to operate. It doesn't have to be really expensive to get studio quality beats because it is all done on computer which means it will be CD quality, but you should make sure that you can easily convert it to CD or mp3 format when you are finished making the track.

There is a really cool blog that talks more about what you are asking as well as a video that explains as well a shows you how to make a beat from scratch.

I recommend that you check it out as it will further answer a lot more of your questions. The kink is down below for you to learn more about what you ask...

How can I tell if my soundcard accepts USB?

I'm a DJ and I'm going to buy a new mixer. I thought I should finally enter the digital age, so I've been looking at digital mixers. A lot of them state that they can be used in conjunction with computers that have a USB sound card. My laptop has 3 USB ports, but I have no idea if any of them are linked to the soundcard. Any idea how I can check? How can I tell if my soundcard accepts USB?
From what you are describing, I think they mean a sound card that connects to the laptop via a USB port. Something like this one: http://us.creative.com/products/product.鈥?/a> I believe. I would also think this would work: http://us.creative.com/products/product.鈥?/a>

None of your laptop's USB ports will be connected to the sound card.

Frugal wedding tips- can you cut this budget for me?

    Okaaay!

I have the following left to pay for for the wedding that is September 6th.

    DJ- $200

    Minister-$200

    Marriage license- $100

Bridal party gifts (4 of them) $150

candy buffet (instead of favours) $150

groomsmen golfing morning of wedding- $100

    wedding bands- $300

clothing for our kids to wear to wedding- $125

rehersal dinner night before for close family/friends- $250

    Hair/makeup- $100

thank you cards for after wedding %26amp; shower- $40

Rest of the catering bill- $400 (parents are paying other $3000)

I am thinking about skipping getting my hair %26amp; makeup done and doing it myself. I am buying basic blank cards from a craft store and stamping my own thank you cards. We have a contract with the DJ otherwise we would just use a laptop for music... but we can't now.

We're not handing out favours, but having a candy buffet. Buying candy in bulk, putting it in bowls and stamping white paper bags with our wedding colours and design.

how can I cut down on bridal party gift costs? I paid for their dresses. I am really trying to keep their gifts at around $100, not the budgeted $150... was thinking about framing a nice picture of me with each of the girls and giving them as gifts, along with a mini spa kit (bath bombs, lotions, scrubs, etc).

I just bought the dress for my daughter on clearance for $19- now my son needs khakis, a white golf shirt, and both kids need shoes.

Was thinking about how to spend less on the rings- a brushed white gold/titanium/silver band for hubby, and a white gold band for myself. Where is the cheapest we can get them? Online is fine, as long as they will arrive on time.

I also need to buy the following--

    tea lights

    spool of raffia

    white paper bags

placecards %26amp; bulletin board for place cards

mini plant pots with greenery in them

    tulle

    green and chocolate brown ribbon

some fake green button mums or something similar

a big wreath form to make a wreath with the flowers

any ways i can cut down these costs even more? I only have like $2000 TOPS for the rest of this! And what is the ettiquette on tipping the caterer/minister/dj?

Thanks!Frugal wedding tips- can you cut this budget for me?
You already bought the bridal party their dresses, so don't go overboard--go and buy them something simple and inexpensive like that mani/pedi kit.

I personally wouldn't skimp on hair and make-up. This is a day to indulge yourself with something like that and it'll look great.

See if you can cut the rehearsal dinner bill. Do something really simple and relaxed--dinner/bbq at your house or pizza. I have a friend who went bowling instead.

Check out dollar stores and on-line for the rest of the stuff you need--you can get a deal...ebay is great for wedding stuff.Frugal wedding tips- can you cut this budget for me?
Cut down on the rehearsal dinner. Have something like a pizza party or sandwich trays and save there.

Cut down on bridal gifts! No need if you've already purchased their dresses. Get them something small. No need to go overboard.

Do the groomsmen really need to go golfing the morning of? I wouldn't want my groomsmen hitting the 19th hole without eating (because you know the guys never eat and then drink whilst golfing)

Check ebay or resale for your sons clothes. Many times boys dress wear is in pristine condition because it is worn so infrequently. I think you can save there.

Get your hair and makeup done! This is your day...quit sacrificing yourself for the sake of others.

If it comes down to it I would skip the candy buffet.

    Here are my suggestions:

    1. We gave our minister $50, that should be enough especially if you do feed him at the reception also.

    2. You bought the bridesmaid's dresses - that's enough of a gift for them - most bride's don't buy the dresses.

    3. Our wedding bands actually came from Walmart - we bought both bands for under $100 and ten years later our bands still look great. And we do wear them constantly so they have had a lot of wear %26amp; tear.

    4. Try Payless Shoe Source for the kids shoes, they have buy 1 get 1 quite often and are very cheap on thier dressy occasion shoes.

    5. Try Michael's for the rest of your decorating things; they have great sales and good coupons in the paper on most Sundays.

    Good luck!
    * Shop your local Dollar Store.

    * You don't need the candy buffet %26amp; favors are a waste.

    * You bought the maids dresses? No need for any other gift. Write them a thank you note.

    * Find cheaper kid's clothing. They'll grow out of them by next month.

    * You have your officiant in place? Are you having a rehearsal? If your officiant doesn't have to conduct the rehearsal she/he might charge a cheaper price. I do.

    * Why do you need to assign seating? Use cards for your reserved seating for special guests, parents, etc. Let everyone else find their own place to sit.

    * Call a local beauty school to see if one of their better students would like to do your hair %26amp; makeup. Or Sally's Beauty Supply; they hire retired salon people or people currently in school.

    * Kohl's has some nice wedding bands. If you purchase them on-line they come with in few days.
Every place is specific, but in my experience most ministers do not charge a fee for a wedding ceremony. Rather, you give him/her a card expressing your gratitude with maybe $50-$100 inside. It is your money and your wedding, but personally I would not spend your money on paying for groomsmen to go golfing. Be glad the DJ is only $200, that is cheap! I looked into one just for a few hours for a birthday party and the cheapest I was quoted was like $400. You could definitely cut out the candy buffet, it is unnecessary just as favors are also unnecessary. Also, if you paid for your bridesmaids dresses I would not buy them a gift... it is customary for the bridesmaids to buy their own dresses, so you have done enough. I think what you have for wedding bands sounds reasonable. That is something you should have forever, so I would not skimp on that.

As far as the rest of the stuff you have to buy, there is definitely ways to find that cheap. I wish I could help you buy those things because I know places to go where I live, but Walmart I would suggest. They usually have a nice variety of fake flowers and wreaths that look nice. If you have a party supply store in your area I would recommend there, they usually have all kinds of ribbon and other things that you need.

Good luck, I know it's stressful. Sorry I can't help more! Congrats!
There’s a lot left for you to do, but it can definitely be done with less than $2000!

    1. hair/makeup – don’t skimp too much on this. You’ll have your pics forever %26amp; you want to look your absolute best! Besides, it will be a great time for you to relax %26amp; be pampered. Now if you have friend who’s willing to do your hair (and can do a good job) ask her. Maybe she’ll do it as a wedding gift – for free!

    2. BM gifts – what you’re considering (framed picture) is really nice, but instead of the mini spa, just put a nice hand written note along with you. You already purchased their dresses %26amp; (as your friends) they should understand that your budget is tight. If you really wanna do something for them, offer to take them out for a girls night (your treat) in about a month or two – after you’ve recovered financially.

    3. kids clothes/shoes – I would suggest going to someplace like target, walmart, or tj maxx to get the kids clothes %26amp; payless for the shoes. if you’re son is a little boy, it really won’t matter if the outfit you purchase is inexpensive cuz he will grow out of it quickly anyway!

    4. rings – surprisingly Sam’s Club has decent gold jewelry as does Kohls. Check there to see if you find something inexpensive. Save yourself some time %26amp; check out their websites. Since Walmart is essentially the same as Sam’s Club, you could check there too.

    5. décor items – all your décor items can be purchased at micheal’s craft store or on a website like www.save-on-crafts.com or www.afloral.com

    6. placecards – you can go to michael’s and get place cards that can be printed at home on your computer %26amp; then just folded. That way, you won’t need a bulletin board for the place cards – just a designated table.

    7. rehearsal dinner – this is totally required, especially if you don’t have out of town guests. Traditionally the purpose of this dinner was to welcome out of town guests and give one more “thank you” to your bridal party. If you can’t afford, just get rid of it. OR, you can just cut back on your menu or do a potluck meal.

Hope this helps! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR MARRIAGE!!!

See if you have a local yahoo group called ';Freecycle'; post a note for the items you need. You would be surprized at the responses. I imagine you know about OrientalTrading.com where you can get bulk stuff cheaply (the mini pots can be gotten there %26amp; painted to match decore. They also have a cute craft topiary idea you could have as a center piece as well as the wreath). I'm sure that someone can loan you a bulletin board from thier home office (that would be a wasteful purchase). Do you have any local .99 cent stores ( I get great picture frames for a buck %26amp; paint to match decore if needed... hot glue a few of them (6-8) together in a unique arangement like in the trendy catalogues with a couple of photos of you %26amp; that person in a frame or two...a saying or sentiment in a couple more %26amp; call it a day at $10.00 each girl) See if the local Sewing store has odd pieces or scrap tulle on sale. Ask the place you are getting your bulk candy from to provide the white bags as part of the price or go to your local restaurant supply shop. Since you are stamping your own Thank You cards, just get a standard ream of paper in a heavy card stock (you can get some really nice %26amp; fancy paper) cut each 8 1/2 x 11 in half (paper cutter) %26amp; you can get 2 cards on one sheet...don't forget the envelopes...brings your $40.00 budget to about $15 to $20.

    Hi and congratulations!

Ohhh....I just LOVE trying to help brides save money!

The first three: DJ, Minister, Marriage License is going to be what it is...no way to cut down on those.

~ Bridal party gifts (4 of them) $150

Have you thought about getting small make up bags with their initial monogramed on them? These are cheap! I used Google and typed in ';bridesmaids initialed makeup bag'; and came up with lots:

    http://www.gunthergifts.com/shstincobag.…

    http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/initial-…

    http://weddingshop.theknot.com/weddingwa…

Then, if you want, you can give some ';spa items,'; but really....if you are trying to cut back...then cut back! If you already paid for their dress....then get them something small. The price points for the ones I posted are $4.99; $14.95 %26amp; $12/$14 and they are really cute! Choose one and go with it.

Same for the kids clothing. You should be able to find some khaki pants for your son and a white shirt very cheap.

Bridal party gifts (4 of them) $150- spend $25 each and get each a cute neckalce and a thank you card

thank you cards for after wedding %26amp; shower- $40

Rest of the catering bill- $400 (parents are paying other $3000)- cash bar, no open bar. Choose cheaper apps, skip expensive seafood

I am thinking about skipping getting my hair %26amp; makeup done and doing it myself- if you really can and will like it, do that. But dont if you cant halde it, it will be a busy day. Maybe get the ahir done and have a friend do the makeup

how can I cut down on bridal party gift costs? I paid for their dresses. I am really trying to keep their gifts at around $100- you bought the dresses, a little gift and a card would be fine!

I just bought the dress for my daughter on clearance for $19- now my son needs khakis, a white golf shirt, and both kids need shoes- look at kids consignment shops

Spend it on the bands-thats forever!

tea lights- dollar store or xmas tree shop if you have one (i can ship you them too)

    white paper bags-http://www.nashvillewraps.com/ShowSku.ww…

    raffia-http://www.nashvillewraps.com/ShowType.w…

mini plant pots with greenery in them-check local nursery for bulk price

    green and chocolate brown ribbon-http://www.nashvillewraps.com/ShowSku.ww…

For my bridal party gifts I am going to Walmart, Bath and Body Works, and the dollar store and I'm going to fill up a bag for each of them in things that are their favorite scents! I'm buying the dresses, shoes, hair, makeup, manis, pedis, and jewelry for my bridesmaids. All of the groomsmen will get an FYE $25 giftcard. And that's about all we have money for.
You can cut down the rehearsal dinner by doing just an out door pick nick at a pretty park and getting a bunck of trayed food like fruit, deli meat ect.. from your local grocery store and borrowing some table to put them on maybe from youre church or something. Decorate then with maybe pictures of you and fiance alone with a pretty table cloth. Depending on the number of guest this could cut like 100 bucks.
I budgetted about 20.00/per bridesmaid for the gifts. I got them pearl necklaces from an Old World Jewelry dealer. They were freshwater pearls and I got a great deal on them.

I shopped the clearance rack at the Gap for my sons pants and found a white shirt at Target. Look for shoes at a TJMaxx or a Target or something.

Check Bluenile.com for rings. Or even Sams Club since you just want white gold bands.

I would also go to the Flowerfactory for the rest of the stuff fo rthe actual wedding. Or look at Hobby Lobby when stuff goes on sale. They have coupons in the sunday paper. You can get white bags at the grocery store like lunch sacks. Tulle you can buy a bolt of it at the fabric store for less than 10.00.

if you get a ring from Sams Club you could buy candy there as well. Get M%26amp;Ms and Licorice and Skittles or something....

You could do a Pot Luck type deal for the rehearsal. Or you could make the food yourself? Or even order pizza.

Cut out the candy buffet, you don't need favors

Get your hair done, but do your own makeup. Have the bridesmaids pay for their own hair and makeup.

For your bridal party gifts: Get them the picture and some earings to wear at the wedding. you don't need to spend alot because you bought their dresses

You should be able to get all the things on you list at a local craft store (michaels, hobby lobby, joann fabrics).

Try ebay for your rings. My fiance got a Tungston Carbide ring for 25 dollars!!!

Maybe skip the golf?? Find a less expensive course???
