1) i heard you can use cd's instead of vinyls now? is there any advantages or anything to using cd's or is it just because vinyls are being phased out?
2) if i buy a 2 channel mixer and two cd players, how do i mix songs together? i assume i burn two cds with tracks and mix from one cd then mix from the other etc?
3) if i have a 2 channel mixer and two cd players and i play a mix, how do i get that mix onto my computer? what program can i use to upload it onto my laptop then to save it.
yeah as i said, stupid questions but i dont know anything about it but im wanting to learn.A few questions on how to DJ?
John - Djing is a fun hobby.
Yes, most DJ use CD's now. Vinyl is great but they are harder to find and a lot more expensive.
All you need to do is connect the CD players to the mixer. The mixer will allow you to play one or the other or a mix of both during transitions. It is really not hard. Blending the two songs together will take a bit af practice. I would recommend getting a DJ dual cd player - it will make Djing much easier:

If you want to record all you need to do is connect the ';tape output'; of the DJ mixer to your computer using a standard 3.5mm to RCA cable. Very easy. A USB audio interface will give you better sound though. Any computer recording software will work.
Some DJ just use a laptop now too. You will still need a mixer.
If you plan to DJ for an audience, you will need speakers and an amp.
